Evelyne Maes as a constitutional specialist in the Senate

On May 7, 2021, the Institutional Affairs Committee invited Evelyne Maes, a constitutional law expert, to speak on the appointment procedure and conditions for judges of the Constitutional Court. There she proposed, among other things, the following improvements:

  • The condition that each judge should have a law degree;

  • Wider access to the office of constitutional judge so that there is more diversity in terms of career path and social representation;

  • A public hearing on each nomination by Senate or House.
